Poondu & Milagu kuzhambu

Ingredients Required:

Tomato – 3 no(Medium)

Onion – 1 no(Big)

Garlic Pods – 15 no

Curry leaves – 2 Spoon

Coriander – 2 Spoon

Mustard – 1 Spoon

Fenugreek – 1/2 Spoon

Cumin seeds – 1/2 Spoon

Gingelly Oil – 1 tablespoon ( 1 Kuzhikarandi)

Red chili powder(Kulambu milagai podi) – 2 Spoon

Tamarind – Gooseberry size

Turmeric powder – pinch

urad dhal – 1/2 Spoon

Salt – As required

Roasted and powdered Pepper – 1 Spoon(Don’t make fine powder, let it be rough)

Preparation method:

Add 1 Tablespoon of oil in Pan. Once it gets heated add Mustard, fenugreek, cumin seeds, urad dal and saute until dhal turns light brown.

Now add curry leaves, garlic pods and saute for 2 mins.

After 2 mins, add onion and saute until it turns golden brown.

Now add tomatoes and saute till it becomes a gravy.

Add turmeric, chili powder, salt and saute for a minute then add 2 1/2 cups of water and allow it to boil.

Add Tamarind Pulp and mix it well.

Cook until it becomes thick and garlic becomes soft. Finally, add powdered Pepper and mix it well.

Allow it to boil for 5 to 7 minutes.

Once its done, Switch off the flame and serve.


  1. Use shallots for great taste.
